SMT Accounting is deliberately small. Every client is looked after by one of the two accountants below, and each reviews the other's work before anything is lodged.
Sohail is a CPA-qualified accountant and an individually registered tax agent. He leads the firm's work on company and trust tax, business structuring, SMSF administration and advisory, and signs off on lodgments for the practice.
Clients describe his style as direct: he would rather explain a tax outcome in two plain sentences than in a report nobody reads, and he will tell you when something is not worth doing.

Syed is a member of the Institute of Public Accountants and an individually registered tax agent. He works closely with individuals, sole traders and small businesses on their tax returns, bookkeeping, payroll and everyday accounting. He looks after the firm's systems — Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks and our secure online onboarding — and is usually the first person new clients speak to.
He is known for plain-English answers, quick replies on WhatsApp, and for making the paperwork side of running a small business feel manageable.

How we work together
Every return, set of accounts and BAS is prepared by one of us and checked by the other before it goes to the ATO. If your matter needs both skill sets — say, a sole trader moving to a company — you will hear from both of us, but you will always have one named contact.
Our professional obligations
As registered tax practitioners we are bound by the Tax Practitioners Board's Code of Professional Conduct, maintain professional indemnity insurance, and complete continuing professional education every year. Our client information page explains what that means for you, including how to check our registration and how to raise a concern.
