Everything here is general information, written by the team at SMT Accounting Pty Ltd — a registered tax agent (Registered Agent No. 26266813) based in Shepparton North and working with clients across Australia. We check each page against current ATO, ASIC and ABRS guidance and note the month it was last updated, but tax law changes often and your circumstances matter. If a decision turns on something you read here, talk to us first.
We are not financial product advisers. Where a checklist mentions insurance, loans or investments it is only to remind you which records to keep — not to recommend any product.
Frequently asked
Are these checklists specific to my situation?
No — they are general lists of the records most people need. Your circumstances may call for more or less. If something on a list doesn't apply to you, skip it; if you're unsure, ask us.
How do I send you my documents?
Once you've completed our online onboarding we'll give you a secure way to share files. Please don't email your TFN, identity documents or bank details — the onboarding form collects those securely.
Do you keep these guides up to date?
We review them when the law or ATO guidance changes and show the month of the last update on each page. Rules change often, so treat a guide as a starting point and check with us before you rely on it.
Can I print a checklist?
Yes. Each checklist page is laid out so that your browser's print function produces a tidy, tick-box list you can work through.
Can't find what you need? Just ask.
Tell us what you're trying to work out and we'll point you to the right page — or give you a straight answer.
