We don't publish a price list, and this page explains why — and exactly how we get to a number you can rely on. The short version: we look at what your work actually involves, we quote a fixed fee in writing, and that is what you pay.
How we quote
- We ask about your situation
A short call or a few messages: what you earn and from where, whether you have a business, investments, property or super, how your records are kept, and whether anything is overdue. This is free.
- We work out the scope
Which returns, statements and reports are needed, how often, and what we'll need from you. For ongoing clients this is a year's worth of work, not just July.
- We send a written fee proposal
One figure for each piece of work — or a monthly amount for ongoing services — with what's included spelled out. You can ask questions or change the scope before agreeing.
- You accept it in your engagement letter
The fee, the scope and both sides' responsibilities go into your engagement letter, which you sign online. Nothing is billable until then.
What's in a fixed fee
Always included
- Preparing, checking and lodging the agreed returns or statements
- Reasonable questions by phone, email or WhatsApp during the year
- Reminders before due dates, and lodgment under our registered-agent program dates
- Standard ATO correspondence about the work we've done
- A summary of what was lodged and what to expect next
Quoted separately, before we do it
- Catching up prior-year returns or BAS
- ATO reviews, audits, objections or payment-plan negotiations
- New entities, restructures and business registrations
- Detailed tax planning or advisory projects
- Fixing bookkeeping that arrives unreconciled
If something outside the agreed scope comes up part-way through, we stop and tell you what it is and what it would cost. You decide. This is the whole point of a fixed fee: the number you agreed is the number you pay.
What drives the fee
You'll get a cheaper quote — from us or anyone — when the work is simpler. The things that move the number are:
- Number of income sources and entities. One income statement is quick. Two rental properties, share sales and a side business are not.
- State of the records. A reconciled Xero file costs less to work from than a shoebox or a bank export with no coding.
- Frequency. Quarterly BAS clients get a lower per-lodgment rate than one-offs because we already know the file.
- Overdue years. Catch-up work is quoted per year, and often gets simpler after the first one.
- Deadlines. Work that needs to be turned around in days is sometimes quoted higher; work booked in with time is not.
Paying
- One-off work (a tax return, a company set-up): invoiced on completion, on the payment terms set out in your engagement letter.
- Ongoing services (bookkeeping, BAS, payroll, year-end): can be billed as a fixed monthly amount, so there's no large bill at year end.
- No fee-from-refund. Your refund goes from the ATO to your bank account, not through us.
- Deductibility. The cost of managing your tax affairs is generally deductible in the year you pay it; we mark it on your invoice.
Switching from another accountant
There's no fee to move. We request your prior-year records and ATO details, and for companies, trusts, partnerships and SMSFs we show you how to nominate us as your agent. Your quote covers the coming year's work only; we don't charge to "take you on".
