Your fund's year-end, in order.
The accounting and compliance work your SMSF needs each year — with an independent auditor coordinated for you.
Financial statements & member balances
Annual financials for the fund, with each member's balance, contributions and earnings reconciled and clearly reported.
SMSF annual return (SAR)
The fund's annual return prepared and lodged to the ATO, including the supervisory levy and any income tax payable or refundable.
Independent audit coordinated
Every SMSF must be audited each year by an ASIC-registered approved SMSF auditor who is independent of the firm preparing the accounts. We arrange this with you as trustee and prepare the working papers.
Contributions & pension tracking
Concessional and non-concessional contributions, plus pension or drawdown payments, tracked against the fund's records each year.
PAYG & BAS for the fund
Where the fund needs it — for example a fund paying a pension or registered for GST — we handle PAYG and BAS obligations too.
Compliance monitoring
We keep track of contribution caps, minimum pension payments and the in-house asset rules in the fund's records, and tell you when something needs attention.
For trustees who want it kept compliant.
We handle the administration; as trustee you remain responsible for the fund and its decisions.
- Existing SMSF trustees who want reliable yearly administration.
- Trustees changing accountants who want an orderly handover.
- Funds that have fallen behind on the SMSF annual return and need to get back up to date.
- Funds paying pensions that need the payments recorded and reported correctly.
One clear annual cycle.
The same reliable process each year.

Accounting and compliance — not financial advice. SMT Accounting handles your fund's accounting, compliance and tax, and coordinates an independent approved SMSF auditor. We are a registered tax agent, not a licensed financial adviser, and we do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence. We do not provide financial product or investment advice — we can't advise whether to start an SMSF or what to invest in. For that, please see a licensed financial adviser.

What does SMSF administration include?
Each year we prepare your fund's financial statements and member balances, keep track of contributions and any pension payments, and prepare the SMSF annual return (SAR). We arrange for an independent approved SMSF auditor to audit the fund as the law requires, then lodge the return to the ATO. We also handle PAYG or BAS for the fund where needed and flag anything to watch for the following year.
Do you audit the fund yourselves?
No. Every SMSF must be audited each year by an approved SMSF auditor who is registered with ASIC and meets the independence requirements — in practice, someone outside the firm that prepares the fund's accounts. As trustee you appoint the auditor; we arrange this with you and prepare the financials and working papers they need.
Can you tell me what to invest in?
No. SMT Accounting is a registered tax agent, not a licensed financial adviser, and we do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence. That means we cannot advise you on whether to start an SMSF, what to invest in, or how to structure your investments. For personal financial product or investment advice, please see a licensed financial adviser. We handle the fund's accounting, compliance and tax.
Can you take over my existing SMSF?
Yes. We can take over the administration of an established fund. We collect the prior financials, member records and fund documents, confirm where things stand, and pick up the annual cycle from there.
What if my fund's annual return is overdue?
We can help. We review the fund's position with the ATO, rebuild prior years where records are incomplete, arrange the required independent audits with you, and lodge the outstanding annual returns. Overdue returns should be dealt with promptly: the ATO can change a fund's Super Fund Lookup status to “Regulation details removed”, which can stop rollovers and employer contributions, and penalties can follow.
