SMT Accounting Pty Ltd wants every client and visitor to be able to use smtaccounting.com.au, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard recommended by the Australian Human Rights Commission for Australian businesses under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, including the menus, forms, FAQ accordions and the onboarding signature step (which accepts a typed name).
- A "Skip to content" link is the first item on every page, and focus is always visible.
- Headings are in order, every image has a text alternative, and every form field has a label; errors are announced to screen readers and linked to the field they relate to.
- Text and background colours meet the AA contrast ratio, and text can be enlarged to 200 % without loss of content.
- Animations respect your device's "reduce motion" setting, and a Pause animations control in the footer stops them on any device.
- Pages are readable without JavaScript, and nothing relies on colour alone to convey meaning.
- Each page is tested with automated tools (Lighthouse and axe) and checked by hand with keyboard navigation before it is published.
Known limitations
- PDF documents such as the engagement letter are generated from the same text as the web form, but we have not yet tagged them fully for screen readers. Ask us and we will provide the content in another format.
- Illustrative charts in page headers are decorative and hidden from assistive technology; they contain no information that is not also in the text.
- Third-party sites we link to — the ATO, the Tax Practitioners Board, the Australian Business Register, Google Maps and WhatsApp — have their own accessibility standards that we do not control.
